Quaestio

Frequently asked questions

Here are answers to questions about how the site works. If your question is not answered, write to quaestio.application@gmail.com.

Does it cost anything?

No. All the tools are free and need no account.

Who is behind the site?

That is on the About page, together with how the site is funded.

Is what I type stored?

No. What you type into a tool stays in your browser and is not sent to Quaestio. The only exception is a word you choose to suggest. A few network tools, such as the DNS lookup, ask another service directly from your browser. It is all described on the Privacy and cookies page.

How do I know the answer is right?

Every calculation has automated tests that run before every change, and information from outside has a linked source under the tool. How this works is described on the How the tools are checked page.

How up to date are the exchange rates, VAT and public holidays?

The exchange rates are the European Central Bank’s reference rates, published every working day, and they are fetched when you open the currency converter. VAT rates and public holidays are compared with official sources every week. Monthly consumer price indices are fetched when the statistics offices publish new figures. The currency and price index tools show when the information was last updated.

Do the tools work offline?

Most of them do, once the page has loaded, because the calculations run in your browser. Tools that fetch something from outside, such as exchange rates or DNS answers, need a connection for that part. The pages you have opened are kept in your browser so that they work offline, even if you have not installed the site as an app.

I have found a mistake. What should I do?

Write to quaestio.application@gmail.com with the address of the page, what you typed in and what you expected. The mistake is corrected in every language, and larger corrections are listed on the Corrections page.

Can I use a tool on my own website?

Yes. Every tool can be embedded for free. The code and the terms are on the Embed our tools page.

Can I use the results at school or at work?

Yes, the tools are free to use. Please mention the source. The results come without a guarantee, so check important decisions against the source under the tool or against the authority responsible for the information. The terms are on the Terms of use page.

Why is the site called Quaestio?

Quaestio is Latin for question or inquiry. More about the name is on the About page.

Can I suggest a tool?

Yes, by email to quaestio.application@gmail.com. Tell us what you want to work out and in what context. If a word is missing from the crossword helper, the words-from-letters tool or the anagram solver, you can suggest it directly below the tool.
