How it works

In Omaha you get four hole cards, or five in the five-card game, and must use exactly two of them with exactly three board cards. Four hole cards give six pairs to choose from, which is why hands run much closer than in hold’em.

Aces are not the favourite they are in Texas Hold’em. A♠ K♠ A♥ K♥, one of the best starting hands, wins about 70% against a random hand, while pocket aces in hold’em win 85%. Double-suited, connected hands are often worth more than they look.

The two-card rule catches people out. Four hearts in your hand make no flush if the board has only one heart, and a single suited ace in your hand is not enough when the board has four of that suit.

In hi-lo the pot is split between the best high hand and the best low hand. A low needs five different ranks of eight or lower, with aces low, and straights and flushes do not count against it. If no low qualifies, the high hand takes the whole pot. The results show each hand’s share of both halves and its chance of scooping.

With known hands every board is counted exactly. Unknown opponents are simulated and shown with a margin of error. Gambling always carries risk; please play responsibly.
