How it works

Short deck, or 6+ hold’em, is played with 36 cards: the twos to fives are removed. You get two hole cards and the board works as in Texas Hold’em.

With fewer ranks the hands have different frequencies. Of the five-card hands in a short deck, 480 are flushes and 1,728 are full houses, which is why a flush beats a full house. The ace can also play low in the straight A-6-7-8-9.

Straights are rarer than trips, 6,120 against 16,128 hands, yet many games still rank trips above a straight, including Triton Poker. Choose the ranking used where you play.

Hands run closer than in normal hold’em because the cards connect more often. A pocket pair is worth less before the flop, and straight and flush draws get stronger.

Gambling always carries risk; please play responsibly.
