How it works
Every bet on a roulette wheel pays as if the zero did not exist. A single number pays 35 to 1, but there are 37 pockets on a European wheel, so the house keeps 1/37, or 2.70%, of everything wagered in the long run. On an American wheel with both 0 and 00 it is 2/38, or 5.26%.
On a single-zero wheel every bet has the same house edge, whether you bet on one number or on red. Only the spread of results differs: a single number wins rarely and pays a lot, red wins almost half the time and pays even money.
The exception is the American top line, 0-00-1-2-3, which pays 6 to 1 for five numbers and gives the house 7.89%. French tables with la partage return half the stake on even-money bets when zero comes up, which halves the edge on those bets to 1.35%.
No betting system changes the house edge. Doubling after a loss only trades many small wins for a rare large loss.
