How it works

Equity is the share of the pot your hand takes on average if all the cards are dealt out. A split pot counts as part of the pot. With known hands every possible board is counted exactly; before the flop that is 1,712,304 boards for two hands.

Opponents with unknown cards are handled by dealing out several hundred thousand random deals, and the result is shown with a margin of error. Pocket aces win 85.2% of the time against one unknown hand but only 31% against nine, because somebody often hits something.

Outs are the cards that put you ahead on the next card, counted against the known hands. The rule of thumb is to multiply your outs by 2 with one card to come and by 4 with two. With nine outs on the flop it gives 36%, against an exact 35%.

Pot odds compare what you have to pay with what you can win. If the pot is 100 and you must call 50, you need to win at least 50 / 150, or 33.3% of the time, for the call to pay in the long run. Compare that with your equity.

The hand table shows how often your hand ends up as a pair, two pair, a flush and so on, given the known cards.

The calculation says nothing about how your opponents play or which hands they tend to hold. Poker for money involves risk; play in moderation.
